Barracuda Load Balancer ADC

What is an SSL Offloading header on my Barracuda Load Balancer?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: one year ago
Solution #00004073

Scope:
All Barracuda Load Balancer models, firmware version 2.5.011 and above, with a service configured using SSL Offloading

Answer:
Encrypted traffic received on the SSL Engine Listen Port will be decrypted before reaching the Real Servers, and traffic coming from the Real Servers will be encrypted before it leaves the Barracuda Load Balancer.

Since the Real Servers send and receive decrypted traffic, no SSL configuration on any of the real servers is necessary. When traffic received is retrieved by the Load Balancer via HTTPS for a SSL Offloaded service, the load balancer will deliver an SSl Offloaded header to the real server as part of the HTTP request, so the application will know that the socket was initialized via HTTPS

Additional Notes:
The actual header will be: Barracuda_Load_Balancer_SSL_Offloaded_Service with a value of 1
