Scheduling Microsoft Defender Quick Scans
The quick scan schedule determines when Microsoft quick scans occur.
To schedule Microsoft Defender Quick Scans
- In the Microsoft Defender AV Schedules section, in the Schedule column of the Quick Scan row, click the first link (Begins with the word "Run").
- Do one of the following:
- To run the quick scan by hour, click Hourly, then type an interval in the Run every box.
- To run the quick scan every day, click Daily, then type the time the scan will begin in the corresponding box. You can also click the clock icon and select a time from the list.
- Click Save.
Scheduling Microsoft Defender Full Scans
The full scan schedule determines when Microsoft full scans occur.
To schedule Microsoft Defender full scans
- In the Microsoft Defender AV Schedules section, in the Schedule column of the Full Scan row, click the first link (Begins with the word "Run").
- Do one of the following:
- To run the full scan every day, click Daily.
- To run the full scan once a week, click Weekly, then select the day of the week to run.
- Type the time the scan will begin in the Time box. You can also click the clock icon and select a time from the list.
- Click Save.
Scheduling Microsoft Defender Virus Definition Updates
The virus definition update schedule determines when Microsoft Defender virus definitions are updated.
To schedule Microsoft Defender virus definition updates
- In the Microsoft Defender AV Schedules section, in the Schedule column of the AV Definition Update row, click the first link (Begins with the word "Run").
- Do one of the following:
- To run the definition update by hour, click Hourly, then type an interval in the Run every box.
- To run the definition update every day, click Daily. Type the time the scan will begin in the Time box. You can also click the clock icon and select a time from the list.
- To run the full scan once a week, click Weekly, then select the day of the week to run. Type the time the scan will begin in the Time box. You can also click the clock icon and select a time from the list.
- Click Save.
