Using a Policy When Advanced Software Management is not Enabled

  • Last updated on

Regardless of whether or not you have enabled third party software management, you can control the third party patch scanning with an Advanced Software Management policy, using either the default policy (See Understanding the Pre-Built Advanced Software Management policy) or a custom one you create (See Creating an Advanced Software Management Policy).

Understanding the Pre-Built Advanced Software Management policy

Barracuda RMM includes a pre-built patch policy that is configured to manage third party applications on Windows workstations and Windows servers. You can use the default Advanced Software Management policy as it is, or modify it. You can also copy the default policy to use as a starting point to create an entirely new policy.

The following table provides an overview of the default Advanced Software Management policy:

  • Set up to scan for available software updates every 22 hours.
  • Patches are installed according to the applicable Execution Schedules.
  • Newly added devices of this policy are not added to a special approval group.
  • Does not use automatic application rules, so, to be effective, it must be added to an active Service Plan or a Service in an active Service Plan.
