How do I configure my Barracuda Message Archiver to work with Novell GroupWise?

Solution #00002510

All Barracuda Message Archivers in use with a GroupWise Server, all firmware versions.

To use the Barracuda Message Archiver with Novell GroupWise, you will need to enable message retention on your GroupWise server, and you will need to create a GroupWise Trusted Application Certificate.

For an explanation of message retention, please visit this link:

To enable message retention on your GroupWise server, please visit this link:

Note that you must ensure that all of the GroupWise agents are running when this change is made, so that the change can replicate to all of the other databases in the system.

Before creating the GroupWise Trusted Application Certificate, please enable Message Retention on your GroupWise server. Attached is a screenshot of ConsoleOne showing this.

To create the GroupWise Trusted Application Certificate, you will need to download our GroupWise Trusted Application Certificate Maker from this solution. You should find it attached at the bottom of this solution as a zip file. Alternatively, you can download it here:

Once downloaded, run this program from a workstation that has the GroupWise client and Novell 32-bit client installed. This workstation must be logged into the same eDirectory tree as the GroupWise system. When you run the program, you only need to specify the domain directory location (just the path to the domain database - not including the domain database itself). You should leave the SSL Required checkbox unchecked. The IP address box should be filled with the IP of the Barracuda Message Archiver. The GroupWise Trusted Application Certificate Maker will generate a key that you will need when configuring the Barracuda Message Archiver.

Once this key has been generated and you are certain message retention is enabled on your GroupWise server, load the Barracuda Message Archiver's web interface. Go to the Basic > GroupWise Sync page and enter the Trusted Application Key generated by the GroupWise Trusted Application Certificate Maker. Then, specify the GroupWise Server, and only specify the IMAP Port if you changed the port when generating the Trusted Application Key.

Remember, the Barracuda Message Archiver will only sync with the GroupWise email addresses you specify in the Username List. Specify only the username (not the full email address) of users to synchronize in this list.

Whether your Barracuda Message Archiver pulls all older messages from the Novell GroupWise server or the GroupWise server only gives new messages to the Message Archiver, your Barracuda Message Archiver should now archive all messages that pass through the GroupWise server.

Additional Notes:
If the GroupWise Trusted Application Certificate Maker tool fails to initialize or run properly, you may not have the latest version of the Microsoft .NET framework installed. The latest version of the Microsoft .NET framework is freely available on Microsoft's website, msdn.microsoft.com.
