How should I configure the Barracuda Message Archiver to work with Unix mail servers like Sendmail, Postfix, or qmail?

Solution #00003036

All Barracuda Message Archivers, all firmware versions.

The easiest way to configure unix-based mail servers to work with the Barracuda Message Archiver is to have them forward a copy of each message in BCC fashion to the email address archiver@<IP>, where <IP> is the IP address of the Barracuda Message Archiver. On some mail servers you may need to encapsulate the IP address in square brackets (ex: archiver@[X.X.X.X] ).

For Sendmail, the milter utility will make this possible:

For Postfix, the always_bcc option will do the same thing:

qmail has the ability to provide a copy of each mail message that it sends or receives through the QUEUE_EXTRA code, but you will probably need to install a patch in order to send those copies to another email address (in this case, archiver@<IP>). One such patch is the "qmail tap" patch.

Additional Notes:
The qmail tap patch has been attached to this solution for your convenience. To download it, scroll to the bottom of this solution and click the links. The INSTALL file will help you install the patch, and the README file should tell you how to copy each message to the email address archiver@<IP>, where <IP> is the IP address of the Barracuda Message Archiver.
