Why isn't my Barracuda Message Archiver removing duplicate messages?

With the use of single instance storage, the Barracuda Message Archiver intelligently removes duplicate emails or attachments from a message thread, ensuring only one copy is compressed before storing it in a file system to maximize storage capacity. However, messages that may appear to be identical may actually contain different header information. If the headers of two otherwise identical emails differ only slightly, the Barracuda Message Archiver will still treat them as two separate emails. Different headers often log different network paths from a sending server to a receiving server, and this information may become relevant in the event of internal investigations or litigation.

If the size of two emails appears to be slightly different on the Basic > Search page, this is a good indication that they contain different information. If you would like to compare the headers on the spot, you can view them (one at a time) by selecting a message and clicking the View Source tab on the right hand side of the page.
