In what format are emails in my Barracuda Message Archiver stored?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 5 months ago

Solution #00003420

Scope:
All Barracuda Message Archivers

Answer:
For the most part, it does not matter what format emails are stored as the Barracuda Message Archiver is an appliance. Storage, indexing and searching are all handled within the unit. However, emails stored externally or for backed up emails, the format of stored emails might be of interest.

The Barracuda Message Archiver stores emails in RFC 822 format. This is standard for email transmission and storage. The Barracuda Message Archiver also does not lock a customer's email in any proprietary format.
