Secure Service Edge (SSE)

The SecureEdge Access service has evolved from basic ZTNA into a comprehensive Secure Service Edge (SSE) platform. This cloud-delivered service integrates security and connectivity to protect users, devices, and data across any location. It offers a simplified, cloud-native SSE that ensures secure access to the Internet, cloud services, and private resources. Such a solution is crucial for providing reliable, secure access to resources, regardless of location or device type, and forms an essential part of any Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution. This platform also offers flexible deployment options, both agent-based and agentless solutions, that are suitable for all mainstream desktop and mobile operating systems, including Linux and  Chromebooks.

Key Features

  • A global, multi-tenant, and scalable service that unifies DNS filtering, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), Firewall as a Service (FWaaS), and the Secure Web Gateway (SWG). An additional AI-based content filter is supported for web security.

  • SecureEdge Access runs on a global SaaS platform with a wide network of Points of Presence (PoPs), enabling easy connection from almost anywhere. For more information, see Understanding Points of Presence (PoPs) and Points of Entry (PoEs).

  • SecureEdge Access integrates networking and security functions to provide comprehensive protection and connectivity for users, devices, and applications accessing the SecureEdge platform.

  • Flexible Web Security policy enforcement and configuration options, including URL filtering, malware detection, and TLS inspection.

  • The SecureEdge Access Agent is a unified agent that connects and provides access to all Barracuda SecureEdge SSE services, including ZTNA and web security.

  • SecureEdge Access is a scalable, fully managed SaaS solution provided by Barracuda Networks. The SSE services include ZTNA, web security, DNS filtering, FWaaS, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP). These services are offered in the following plans:

    • SecureEdge DNS Access – DNS-based Web Filter, ZTNA (limited to 10 users), and Reporting (7 days)

    • SecureEdge Private Access – DNS-based Web Filter, ZTNA, FWaaS, and Reporting (30 days)

    • SecureEdge Internet Access – DNS-based Web Filter, Web Security, AI-based content filter, FWaaS, and Reporting (30 days)

    • SecureEdge Premium Access – DNS-based Web Filter, ZTNA, Web Security, AI-based content filter, FWaaS, DLP, and Reporting (30 days)

Only the SecureEdge Private Access plan supports both PoEs (hardware/Edge Services/CGF) and PoPs. For all other plans, only POPs are supported. If PoEs are used, only Private Access may be enrolled. Plans cannot be mixed with PoEs.
