Why am I seeing application timeouts on Azure instances?

Scope: WAF Firmware: Any.
Platform: Azure.

Issue: Services hosted on WAF in Azure where servers take more time to process the request are getting time out.
 
Solution:
Check the following.
1.       Increase the “session timeout” under service to something more than the time required for server to process the request.
2.       Increase the “timeout” under server settings on WAF to something more than the time required for server to process the request. If you don’t see this option under “edit” page of server, then please enable “show advanced settings” options under “Advanced -> system configuration” page. Then try to edit the server settings.
3.       If both the above changes are not fixing the issue, then ask customer to check the TCP idle timeout on Azure load balancers in front of WAF. Azure load balancers by default has an idle timeout of 4 minutes. Please refer to the below knowledge base from Microsoft.
