Barracuda Web Security Agent

Requirements for the Barracuda Web Security Agent With Windows

  • Last updated on

The Barracuda Web Security Agent (WSA) on Windows systems supports the Microsoft .NET Framework as shown in the table in this page.

Windows XP/Vista/Server 2003 will no longer be supported for the Barracuda WSA after May 31, 2016. If you are running any of these versions, please upgrade to a supported Windows operating system.

You can install the Barracuda Web Security Agent on Windows systems that meet the following requirements:

  • 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows 7/8/10
  • Latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or Chrome browsers
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 2 Ghz processor
  • 30 MB free disk space
  • If you are using the Barracuda WSA with the Barracuda Web Security Service: In order to centrally manage Barracuda WSA clients in the Barracuda Web Security Service Manager, the Barracuda WSA must be version 3.3 or later. Note: The Barracuda Web Security Service is not supported for the Barracuda WSA 5.x and above.

  • Microsoft .NET Framework as designated in the table:

* The configuration in BOLD is recommended

x86 (32-bit) / x64 (64-bit)
.NET Framework.NET 4.6.2
RedistributablesVisual Studio 2015 C++ Update 3
 BarracudaWSASetup.exe for x86 and x64 architectures automatically scan the prerequisites and install them if they are not found. If they are not found, then BarracudaWSASetup.exe installs the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 Update 1.

With Version 4.4.6 and higher:

Barracuda uses SHA-256 code signing for all Barracuda binaries for all supported platforms and OS versions. If you are running Windows 7 and want to be able to use WFP or Tamper Protection, you must install the Microsoft Security Advisory 3033929 security patch. Some Windows 7 installations may run into difficulties when using Tamper Protection or switching between LSP and WFP drivers for traffic interception. These features will not work as expected, as Windows 7 needs the patch to trust the SHA-256 signed kernel-mode drivers.
