What is the "Spam" Content Filtering category on my Barracuda Web Filter?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 11 years ago
Solution #00001319

Scope:
All Barracuda Web Filters, firmware versions 2.2 and higher.

Answer:
On January 16, 2007, Barracuda Central delivered a new Content Category to all Barracuda Web Filters running firmware release 2.2 and higher to the field.

This new Content Category consists of domain names classifed by Barracuda Central as domains utilized by spammers and senders of unsolicited bulk e-mail that violate the CAN SPAM Act of 2003.

The contents of this Content Category leverage the large corpus of spam email complaints both from Barracuda Central's own honeypots as well as complaints from over 40,000 customer systems throughout the world.

By default, the Barracuda Web Filter blocks domain names in this category. You, of course, may choose to take any policy action (allow, monitor, warn, block) on this category and may apply policy exceptions based on user, group, or IP subnet.
