How does the 'exempt users' feature work on the Barracuda Web Filter?

  • Type: Knowledgebase

Solution #00003197

Scope:
All Barracuda Web Filters, firmware versions 3.3.0.031 and above.

Answer:
When using the DC Agent to catch user log in events and control user web access, specific users may be completely exempted from all policy checks and logging. This is the 'exempt users' feature, and it can be used to keep script logic or other background users from showing up in the logs.

To configure this on 3.x firmwares (3.3.0.031 and newer), go to the Users/Groups > Configuration page and list the LDAP usernames of the users you would like to exempt, along with the corresponding LDAP server, under the DC Agent Configuration heading.

To configure this on 4.x firmwares, go to the Users/Groups > Authentication page and list the LDAP usernames of the users you would like to exempt, along with the corresponding LDAP server, under the DC Agent Configuration heading. Traffic for the excluded user is logged, but as an "unauthenticated" user instead of being identified.
