Barracuda Web Security Gateway

Why won't my Barracuda Web Filter load IIS authentication sites?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 10 years ago

Solution #0003463

Scope:
All Barracuda Web Filters configured as a forward proxy, firmware versions 3.3 and below.

Answer:
This depends on the authentication scheme used by the IIS server. The Barracuda Web Filter's proxy engine can process web sites that use simple HTTP authentication. For websites that use other authentication mechanisms like NTLM/Kerberos, there are two options:
  • Configure each user's browser to bypass the Barracuda Web Filter for local addresses and go there directly instead. In Internet Explorer, for example, this can be done by navigating to the Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings page and enabling the Bypass proxy server for local addresses option.
  • Configure the IIS server to use Basic Authentication instead of NTLM/Kerberos.
