How do I enable the hover-over status bar display in my web browser for my Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall or Barracuda Web Filter?

Solution #00003600

Scope:
All Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewalls and Barracuda Web Filters, all firmware versions.

Answer:
The web interface of all Barracuda Networks products includes a hover-over status bar display feature that, by default, is not enabled in most web browsers. Enabling this will allow a potentially obscured log entry to appear in the status bar of the browser when the mouse cursor is moved over that log item.

To enable the hover-over status bar display in Firefox 2 and 3:
  1. Select Tools > Options.
  2. Select the Content tab.
  3. Click the uppermost Advanced... button.
  4. Check the Change status bar text checkbox.
To enable the hover-over status bar display in Internet Explorer 6 and 7:
  1. Select Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. Click the Custom level... button.
  4. In the Scripting section near the bottom, Enable the Allow status bar updates via script option.
To see whether it's working, go to one of the logs on the Barracuda (e.g. the Basic > Message Log page of the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall, or the Basic > Log page of the Barracuda Web Filter) and move the cursor over a log entry. The status bar of your browser should display the text of that log entry, even if that entry is not fully visible in the log itself.
