Barracuda Web Security Gateway

What should my default gateway be set to on my Barracuda Web Filter when inline?

Solution #00004234

Scope:

This solution applies to all Barracuda Web Filters.

Answer:

The Default Gateway, configured under Basic > IP Configuration, is the IP address of the next outbound hop from the device. The Barracuda Web Filter sends all egress traffic to the default gateway via the WAN port. For forward proxy deployment, use the same Default Gateway that is used by hosts on the network. The firewall must be on the same subnet as the Web Filter.

Before changing your Gateway IP address if incorrectly set now, You need to add any needed static routes for return traffic to get back to the client machines or their traffic will most likely fail when not on the same subnet as the barracuda. See solution 6041.

Also be sure to not use the WSG device as your PCs gateway IP as this will cause issues handling the traffic as the WSG is not a gateway and is only a layer2 device. This should only be done if used as a proxy to reach the WSG via the Browser settings to direct traffic to the WSG.
