Why are my whitelist/blacklist and Content Filter blocks/allows not working for users on my Barracuda Web Filter?

Applies to all Barracuda Web Filters.



If you have authenticated users and/or unauthenticated users, please reference the upper right-hand side of the page that utilizes a drop-down list for Authenticated and Unauthenticated profiles. These profiles are both active and will be used for your users. The drop-down list will appear in these tabs only:




  • Content Filter
  • Applications
  • Domains
  • URL Patterns
  • MIME Type Blocking

NTLM, KERBEROS, LDAP, LOCAL USERS are all considered authenticated users under your Barracuda Web Filter. You can verify your users in two locations:


  1. Basic > Web Log ? to see if usernames appear.
  2. Users/Groups > Account View ? NTLM and Kerberos users will not appear because authentication is not cached for those users.

All unauthenticated users will show up with a "-" in your web logs.
