What are formatting rules to know when entering web site information in Custom Categories on my Barracuda Web Filter?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 6 years ago

Solution #00004921

Scope:

Applies to Barracuda Web Filters, all firmware versions.

Answer:

You need to follow these formatting rules when entering web site information in Block/Accept > Custom Categories on a Barracuda Web Filter:

  1. No http// in front.
  2. No www.
  3. No "/" at the end of the domain.
  4. No wildcards.
  5. No Regular Expressions.

Additional notes:

In some rare circumstances, “www.” is required in the Custom Category entry. This includes situations where the Content Filter definitions have an entry for both the www.domain.com and domain.com form of the website. When a custom category does not appear to be working, it may indicate that both formats are required.
