How do I configure Policy Alerts on my Barracuda Web Filter?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: one year ago
Solution #00006021

Scope:
All Barracuda Web Filter, firmware version 5.0.0.016 and above.

Answer:
Use this feature if you want to send an email alert to one or more people with a summary of authenticated violators of policy (Warn, Block or Monitor actions taken)based on content filtering policy. The message will summarize actions by the top violators based on the Top Count For Each Category specified on this page.

To configure Policy Alerts, navigate to the Basic > Administration page:
  1. Set Enable Policy Alerts to Yes.
  2. Configure the Policy Alert Email Address here
    • You can also select Receive Alerts for a role that you define on the ADVANCED > Delegated Admin page.
  3. Set the Policy Alert Frequency
    • A digest (summary) of all policy violations since the last alert email was sent goes out a few minutes after the hour at the interval you select.
  4. Select a Policy Alert Format, either HTML or PDF.
  5. Select Top Count for Each Category, the number of top policy violators (users) you want to include in the summary.
    • For example, if you select 5, you'll see the number of Block, Warn and Monitor actions taken for the top 5 users by category. Set this value to 0 to include ALL users who have violated policy for the time frame in the summary.
  6. Finally, create policy alert rules from the BLOCK/ACCEPT > Exceptions page.
    • You'll indicate the action (Warn, Block, Monitor), select Authenticated users and specify the Content Filter Category and the desired Sub Category.
    • Check the Create Policy Alert box and set an Alert Threshold.
