How can I verify that traffic is being scanned for malware on my Barracuda Web Filter or Web Security Service?

Barracuda web filtering products provide the peace of mind that comes with knowing that traffic is filtered of all malware. However, sometimes it may be necessary to verify that malware protection is active and working as expected. There are many tools to provide tangible evidence of Barracuda's malware protection;  one of these tools is EICAR's Anti-Malware Testfile.

Use the following steps to use EICAR:
1. Navigate your browser to http://www.eicar.org/ (please note that this is not https://www.eicar.org, which is a separate site).
2. Click on Anti-Malware Testfile.
3. From the menu on the left, click Download
4. Under "Download area using the standard protocol http," click eicar.org.
5. You will receive a message stating that access has been blocked due to a virus, indicating that malware protection is active. If do you not receive this, please contact Barracuda Technical Support immediately to help resolve the issue.

The above steps verify that viruses transported over HTTP are blocked. Barracuda web filtering services are able to block viruses transported over HTTPS only when SSL Inspection is activated properly. If SSL Inspection is activated on your web filtering product, you can test this by clicking the SSL enabled eicar.com file. This is found on the same webpage, underneath the  "Download area using the secure, SSL enabled protocol https" label.
