What Can I do If I experience high latency and system load when Energize Updates are updating on my Barracuda Web Filter 210?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 5 years ago

Solution #00006553

Scope:

Applies to the following products:

  • Barracuda Web Filter 210 with 6.0.1.012 Firmware

Answer:

If you have Energize Updates set to download automatically (check the Advanced > Energize Updates page for this setting), then the Web Filter will check several times per hour to see if updates are available for Spyware, Virus, and Security definitions (Category definitions are checked daily at midnight, Application defintions daily at 3:00am). If a new update is available, the device will then download and install that update.

In some cases your Barracuda Web Filter 210 may exhibit latency caused by high CPU usage when it is updating your spyware definitions. If you think this is occurring, please contact Barracuda Technical Support to have the times at which your device checks for spyware definitions adjusted. Discuss the issue with the technician involved and pick one or more times during the day that work well for you. Off production or lunch times may be best, depending on your needs.

Answer:

- IMPORTANT: Barracuda recommends updating your spyware definitions at the very least once a day.

- This change will not persist through a firmware update. When you update the version of your Web Filter's firmware, please contact  Technical Support again to have the changes restored.
