Solution #00004019

Scope:
Yosemite Server Backup, version 8.0 and above.

Answer:
If Yosemite Server Backup is unable to read your media you may need to import your tapes. There are several cases that may require you to import your tapes before Yosemite Server Backup will recognize them.

  • You reset, restored or reinstalled your catalog.
  • You versioned your catalog and need to restore objects from your backup media.
  • You need to restore objects from Tapeware, version 7.0 backup media.

This process could take several hours per tape depending on your device, media size and the amount of data on each tape.

Steps for version 8.7.01 and older:

  1. Open Yosemite Server Backup and navigate to the Favorites Menu.
  2. Select Devices and then double click on your machine name, then double click on Devices.
  3. Insert the tape to be imported.
  4. Right click the backup device and select Import Media.
  5. Click Next until you are prompted to Finish, and then click Finish.

Steps for version 8.8 and newer:

  1. Open Yosemite Server Backup.
  2. Select Devices and then double click on your machine name, then double click on Devices.
  3. Right click the backup device and select Import.
  4. Here you can edit log options, apply any needed password/passphrase and target the location where the media will be placed.
  5. Select Run to begin the import.
