How do I restore a specific file version or instance in Yosemite Server Backup?

Scope:
Yosemite Server Backup, version 8.0 and above.

Answer:
This solution provides instructions on restoring data from backup media to its original location.


Yosemite Server Backup 8.9.x and newer
  1. Open the Yosemite Server Backup Administrator.
  2. Select Tasks from the menu on the left.
  3. Double-click on Restore.
  4. Choose a name for your Restore Job, and then click OK.
  5. Expand the Network resource, expand the File Systems folder, and locate the object you want to restore.
  6. Highlight the item you want to restore, and then select the version you would like to restore in the panel at the bottom of the window. If a specific version of the file is not specified, the latest version of the selected object will be restored by default.
  7. Select Device on the left side panel.
  8. Expand the type of device that you will be restoring from, then select the device you want to restore from that would have the selected version in the drive.
  9. Click Run to begin the restore.

Yosemite Server Backup 8.8.01 to 8.9.x
  1. Open the Yosemite Server Backup Administrator.
  2. Select Tasks from the menu on the left.
  3. Double-click on Restore.
  4. Choose a name for your Restore Job, and then click OK.
  5. Expand the Network resource, expand the File Systems folder, and locate the object you want to restore.
  6. Highlight the item you want to restore, and then click the Versions icon at the top of the window. If a specific version of the file is not specified, the latest version of the selected object will be restored by default.
  7. A new window will open with the details for the selected file. Highlight the version you would like to restore and click OK.
  8. Select Device on the left side panel.
  9. Expand the type of device that you will be restoring from, then select the device you want to restore from that would have the selected version in the drive.
  10. Click Run to begin the restore.

Yosemite Server Backup 8.7.0.1 and older
  1. Open the Yosemite Server Backup Administrator.
  2. Select View > Favorites > Jobs and Media from the menu bar. 
  3. Click on the Admin resource and then right-click and select New in the white space on the right side of the window.
  4. Choose Restore Job as the job type, enter a descriptive name for the job, and then click OK.
  5. Click Selection from the pages section of the restore job's properties window.
  6. Expand the Network resource, expand the File Systems folder, and locate the object you want to restore.
  7. Highlight the item you want to restore, and then click the Versions icon at the top of the window.
  8. If a specific version of the file is not specified, the latest version of the selected object will be restored by default.  
  9. A new window opens with the details for the selected file.
  10. Highlight the version you would like to restore and click OK
  11. Select Device on the left side panel.
  12. Expand the type of device that you will be restoring from, then select the device you want to restore from that would have the selected version in the drive.
  13. Click Run from the commands section to start the restore. 
  14. Click OK to close the window and save the restore job.
