Solution #00004951

Scope:

Applies to Yosemite Server Backup 8.8 and newer.

Answer:

When creating a DR ISO it may fail with "Unable to open key" error in yttrace file for Yosemite Server Backup with the symptoms:

  • The process of creating the DR image fails with a generic error.
  • An error of the following example shows up in the yttrace.txt file.

04/09/2010 10:56:15 AM Wrg: Unable to open key DRSYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Keyboard Layouts\00001409 (2)

What is happening here is that YSB is looking in "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Keyboard Layout\Preload" for the keyboard layout to use during the DR process. We are finding the value of "00001409". Unfortunately, this keyboard layout doesn't exist on this system. Thus, when we try to open the key for that keyboard layout we get the error unable to open key.

The resolution is to simply change the Preload value to point to one that exists and is acceptable, "00000409" being the US keyboard layout it one likely option.
