Barracuda Yosemite Server Backup

How do I configure Yosemite Server Backup to work with a clustered SQL environment?

Solution #00005437

Scope:
Yosemite Server Backup 8.8.02 and Above

Answer:

For Yosemite Server Backup 9.0.x and Above

Yosemite will only backup the Active Node.

To fully protect a SQL Clustered environment, you will need to install Yosemite on all Nodes in case of failover.

For Yosemite Server Backup 8.8.02 to 8.9.02

In order to configure Yosemite Server Backup for use with a clustered SQL, you will first need to know the server name and instance name for the SQL instance you wish to protect.

You will then edit the ytconfig.ini file located under the following folder (by default):
C:\Program Files\Barracuda\Yosemite Server Backup\Config\

Add a section to the bottom of this file for:

[SQL Server]

To this section you will add a line that defines where to go to access this SQL instance.
The line being added will depend on whether this SQL instance is the default local instance or a named instance.
For a default instance the line should look like:

localserver.server=$sqlinstancename$

Where $sqlinstancename$ is the name of this clustered instance.
For a named instance of SQL it should look like:

$sqlinstancename$.server=$virtualservername$\$instancename$

Where $virtualservername$ is the name of the virtual server setup here, $instancename$ is the name of the clustered instance, and $sqlinstancename$ is the instance name you wish to appear in YSB.

In both cases the right hand value will be the string you would use to connect to the SQL server using SQL manager.
