How can the user tell the difference in Global vs Per Domain setting in the Barracuda Email Security Service (BESS

Scope:
Barracuda Email Security Service All Firmware

Answer:
There are three areas where policy settings can be made in BESS.

   Global Policy Settings
Per Domain Policy Settings (Manage Domain)
   User Policy Settings

The User Policy Settings are always used.

The Global Policy Settings are used UNLESS there is a saved Per Domain Policy.

GLOBAL and PER DOMAIN policies are not used together. Only one or the other is used.

For example:

You have Global Sender Policies set.
You go into Manage Domain and access the Per Domain Sender Policy.
You add a new entry there and save the page.

From that point on only the PER DOMAIN Sender Policy will be used. Any changes to the Global Policy will not be used for this domain.

This Global vs Per Domain rule is in effect for all per domain settings (Manage Domain)

If you want to go back to using any of the existing Global Policies this can be done by contacting Barracuda Technical Support and requesting they revert the per domain policy you want changed. Not that when you do this any Changes to that policy made at the per domain level will be lost.

It is also important to note that changes to your policies will not take effect instantly. Changes have to propagate throughout all our Mail servers which can take up to 10 minutes after a change was made.

If you have any questions on this please contact Barracuda Technical Support.
